Marion Supervision Office Role

The official MDOC page identifies the Marion Probation & Parole Office as a local Community Corrections office. It becomes relevant after release to parole, probation, earned-release supervision, or another community status. The office can confirm whether it is the right routing point and explain the process for a public inquiry. It does not establish how a local detainee left the county facility.

That boundary matters. A county jail docket documents a local discharge or transfer. An MDOC record documents state sentence administration. A court order creates probation or supplies release authority in a criminal case. The Mississippi State Parole Board decides parole, while MDOC staff supervise parole in the field. The Marion office should not be described as a Board hearing site, another jail, or the place that physically releases county detainees.

Marion Release Status Types

Parole, probation, ERS, and final discharge are distinct. Parole follows a decision by the Mississippi State Parole Board and places the person in the community under conditions. Probation is generally imposed by a court and can begin without a state-prison release. Earned-release supervision, or ERS, is conditional release under Miss. Code § 47-5-138; the person retains inmate status and remains under MDOC jurisdiction until sentence expiration. Final discharge means the relevant sentence authority has ended.

Parole

Conditional community release after a Parole Board decision.

Probation

Court-ordered community supervision, sometimes without prison custody.

ERS

Earned-release supervision under MDOC jurisdiction before sentence expiration.

Discharge

Completion of the relevant sentence or correctional jurisdiction.

Absconder

A status alleging noncompliance and inability to locate under the responsible authority; it must not be inferred from a missed appointment or search absence.

No official comprehensive public MDOC probationer or absconder database was found. The MBI Most Wanted list is not a substitute. Ask the local office or responsible authority how a particular public status can be verified without seeking protected address, victim, medical, or case-plan information.

Verify Marion County Supervision

Use the statewide public tools before calling. An exact MDOC number is stronger than a name match. Compare neutral identifiers and read each displayed label literally. A future Tentative Release Date does not prove release, and a past date does not prove final discharge.

1. Search the MDOC Parolees Search for a person believed to be on parole.
2. Check the main MDOC offender search for location, sentence, and Tentative Release Date.
3. Review the matching Mississippi VINELink agency and event, if available.
4. Call the Marion office to ask whether it is the correct supervision office and how a public status inquiry is routed.
5. For final discharge, request the discharge certificate or official status record from MDOC Records.

If the person is absent from the parole search, do not label the person discharged or absconding. The explanation may be probation, ERS, another supervising office, data lag, a different identifier, return to custody, or no state supervision. Build a dated chronology rather than overwriting one status with another.

Marion Parole Decision Authority

The Mississippi State Parole Board, not the Marion field office and not MDOC, grants, denies, or revokes parole under its authority. MDOC then handles sentence administration and field supervision. Parole eligibility under Miss. Code § 47-7-3 depends on the offense, sentence date, sentence structure, habitual-offender status, exclusions, and current law. Eligibility is the point when consideration may become possible. It is not an order to release.

No working official public Board calendar or decisions-results search was located during the research sweep. Do not invent a hearing cadence. Review the official administrative rules, contact the Board, or seek a releasable action sheet for a named matter. A grant can still require processing and an approved plan before physical release. A denial means continued custody subject to the applicable process. Revocation addresses return to custody after conditional release.

Marion Jail Versus Supervision

The Marion Probation & Parole Office cannot prove whether a county detainee bonded out, served a local term, was dismissed, or transferred. For that event, use the Marion County jail docket and booking or release sheet. Ask for the actual date and time of discharge, release type, authority, and receiving agency. Then use the court docket for the order behind the move.

A person can move from Marion/Walthall into state custody, or leave state custody under supervision, without final discharge. Each transition should retain its own date and label.

Marion Supervision Event Checks

Mississippi VINE/SAVIN can report participating custody and supervision events such as release from custody, transfer, return to custody, and abscond-supervision updates. A VINE notice is an event lead from the named source agency. It is not an advance guarantee and does not replace a Board order, jail docket, or MDOC certificate.

Mississippi’s Registration Link may carry a registration from county custody into MDOC or other custody after a felony transfer. That is especially useful for Marion/Walthall’s mixed regional role. Read the source agency and event type before interpreting the notice. A transfer notice should prompt a search of the receiving custodian, not a claim that the person returned to the community.

Correct Marion Supervision Records

Send a correction to the office that created the disputed field. MDOC Records handles time, jail credit, eligibility, and state status issues. The court clerk handles a docket or judgment issue through court procedure. The sheriff handles the local jail entry. A search vendor cannot amend the source judgment or discharge certificate.

Identify the exact field, the supporting official document, and the requested correction. Preserve the displayed label, retrieval date, and agency. This focused method avoids turning a missing or stale public result into an unsupported conclusion about custody or compliance.

Supervision can move between field offices. The county of conviction, former facility, and current reporting office need not be the same place. Ask whether the Marion office is the correct routing point before assuming a local assignment. An office mismatch does not establish discharge, violation, or return to custody.
